Alex & Tiffany

Brooke

I first met Tiffany (the bride) while working at Hollister in high school. (In fact, I met three of Tiff's bridesmaids while working at HCO too!) I remember Tiff's first day of work because she was sent to "shadow" me. We chatted, folded t-shirts and both thought the other was way older and cooler than we really were. (We talked about this later. Ha!) When Tiffany wrote me an email months ago asking me to photograph her wedding, I truly couldn't have been more excited and honored. Tiffany is a wonderful, beautiful person - and I knew her wedding with Alex would be the same.

Tiffany and Alex tied the knot in Darlington (really? how cute is that?), Maryland, at her Uncle's house/farm. Tiffany made everything herself. The escort cards, centerpieces, table settings and the dozens of paper cranes hanging from the trees at the ceremony. Truly DIY. And fully fabulous.

I have been wanting to post these images since May and am so thrilled to be sharing my favorites with you now. Tiff and Alex's wedding is one of my favorites, ever.

Leave comments! Enjoy! [BC]

I don't usually shoot mini-senior sessions anymore, but for our lovely neighbors, I made an exception! Last week sometime I shot (and T.J. edited) some senior portraits for Aaron who is graduating from Manheim Central this year. Aaron and I walked around our backyards, and the couple blocks surrounding our neighborhood, for about 30 minutes and shot some images. It was simple and short - but did the job. :) Here are a few of the best... [BC]

I don't even know where to begin when talking about Kate. I have known her since the day I was born. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of hours of my life with her. We grew up together. Traveled across the country together. Attended college together. Laughed, cried, and laughed some more - together. Kate is stunningly beautiful. Incredibly smart. Fabulously witty. And the kind of person that when you sit and listen to her story, you can't help but be changed by it. Be inspired. Become a better person.

We recently spent some time in Florida (view previous post). So naturally I had to shoot some portraits of my dear friend. Words can't express what she means to me.

Enjoy!

We Are BC Photography

Brooke

Hello Everyone!

I have some very exciting photos to share with you all. :) Photos of T.J. and I! You'd think, being photographers, we'd have some sweet photos of the two of us... but we actually don't. And seeing how our wedding photography is a nightmare (we still don't have our wedding photos... and we've been married 10 months) ... T.J. and I figured it was about time to get some photos of us.

Our dear friend Jeff came to stay at our house for a few days and shoot us. In fact, both T.J. and I, as well as Jeff, all need new "about us" photos for our various websites, which was the motivation for our sessions.

These first two shots, I took, before I handed the camera over to Jeff for the afternoon. The first shot is of T.J. and the second is Jeff.

For the first couple photos Jeff shot with his camera (cough, cough, a Nikon, cough)... but when I said "Use mine for a few!" (my Canon 5D) ... Jeff made the switch and never went back. Jeff shot all of the photos below, and I edited them this evening. A fabulous collaboration. In fact, I was just telling Jeff on iChat a few minutes ago how much I love editing his photos. It's so exciting! Like a little goodie-bag. I never know what I'm going to get! Enjoy the photos. And to Jeff, Thank You. You have no idea how much these images mean to us. We love you!
Welcome To The World - Stephen David

Brooke

In February I had the privilege of doing something that was both an honor and a blessing. I photographed my first birth, which is not only an incredible thing to witness, but better yet, it was for my sister-in-law, Steph.

Steph's an incredible lady and gave birth naturally. No drugs, no crazy hookups, nothing. Just her and Kyle - and lots of breathing. :)

And then, just like that, there he was: Stephen David Atteberry... at 10:33pm. What was almost as amazing as the actual miracle of birth, was how Kaila (now a big sister) was instantly protective, concerned, and overwhelmed with love for her little brother. One of my favorite lines she said, just after Stephen was born, was "Are you going to get in too?".. referring to the bathtub. I politely answered, "No. Not today", when I was actually thinking "You couldn't PAY ME to get in that bathtub!"

In all of the images below, Stephen is no older than a few minutes. Childbirth is incredible. Almost beyond belief at times.

One of my favorite authors, Shauna Niequist, says this about babies, "I think babies really do make you believe in God. They make you believe in God because there's something just beyond understanding about their freshness and fragility and their smell and their toes. When they take their first breaths, and when they land, floppy and slippery, on your chest under the bright overhead light in an otherwise dim delivery room, when you watch their tiny sleeping selves, when you hear their thin wild animal cries, you know, you just know in your guts that God is real, and that babies have been with him more recently, have come more directly from him than our worn-out old selves have....

... It makes sense to me in a new way that God chose to wrap his divinity in baby bones and baby skin. I always thought maybe it was to demonstrate vulnerability, or to identify fully with each phase of humanity, but how I think it was something else. I think it was because babies make us believe in the possibility and power of the future."

Joel and Cali were our first wedding for 2010! However, that wasn't a hard title for them to claim considering they tied the knot on January 1st, 2010. Cali and I were introduced through a mutual friend, (Thanks Lu!). I met Cali for the first time when T.J. and I arrived in Virginia for the wedding.

Despite the freezing weather and snow, the day was beautiful, sunny and overflowing with joy. It was fabulous. Joel and Cali were, by far, the most cooperative bride and groom we've ever had in cold weather. They were such troopers! Thanks guys! :) Also, Cali is wearing her mother's wedding dress! It was altered a bit by removing the sleeves. Isn't it beauuuutiful!?!

David & Rachel - Wedding

Brooke

Photography is certainly one of my all time favorite things. Second in line, might be the kind of friends who are totally awesome and make you a better person. So what could be better than photographing the wedding celebration of one of those friends? Nothing, really. :)

I met David while attending Liberty University in 2005-2006, but it wasn't until a year or so later that we became good friends. I was also introduced to Rachel, through a mutual friend, during my time at Liberty. One day I thought to myself, while watching David and Rachel talk to one another on campus, "Hey. They'd make an awesome couple." And then, BAM. They were a couple. And became double awesome.

David and Rachel tied the knot on December 12th, 2009 - and their day went a little something like this:

We met up with Rachel and her bridesmaids at a local salon, where Rachel was getting her hair and make up done. I had never seen a bride so excited to get married. If I could have been given a dollar for every time she said the words "bride" "wedding day" and "david"... I would have walked out of that salon a lot richer. :)

The ceremony was beautiful and of course, I cried. After their vows and first kiss, David and Rachel sang a song together, which was fitting for a worship pastor and his wife.

Family photos followed the ceremony as my team and I made everyone brave the freezing weather for some natural light. Bridal party photos were next. And then some portraits of the bride and groom.

For the photos of David and Rachel, we did something I had never done before. Instead of just picking a random location, we went to the house that they bought together. It was perfect. We did photos on their front porch and in their yard.

At the reception, Jeff and I manned the dance floor - while T.J. handled the PHOTO BOOTH we set up as a wedding gift for David and Rachel. It was fabulous!

The video at the bottom was created by my brother, Taylor Courtney. I love how if you look closely enough at the video, you can find the "matching photo moments". If you need any video work done, Taylor is guy I'd recommend. You can email him at taylor@brookecourtney.com.

Enjoy this post. And leave comments - I love knowing everyone's favorite photo. [BC & Team]

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!

Brooke

The Christmas season has already come and gone! Can you believe it??? I wanted to share a few images from my Christmas holiday with you. So, here goes. :) Enjoy!

The Christmas "Season" always kicks off for my family with my Dad's birthday on the 23rd. This year "Norkey" celebrated his 49th Birthday! (Below)

We had a birthday dinner at my parent's house with some of their close friends, The Nickels and The Perrons. It was a great evening and I don't remember the last time I laughed that hard.

My Mom made a delicious chocolate cake with real peanut butter icing! Mmm! (Below)

Now, on to Christmas morning! First, we went to T.J.'s parent's house. After opening our stockings, T.J. slid a gift in my direction and casually told me to open it. I was certainly not prepared for what I was about to open. A CANON D5 MARK II!!!!! Yea... I was shocked. :) Of course we had to test it out...

Nick showing off his parent's (2nd!) huge remote! (Below)

T.J.'s favorite gift that I got him was his iPhone case from Threadless.

Kaila and Popou (with his black eye...) (Below)

T.J.'s family usually chooses one family member per Christmas to get the "big gift!" This year it was Samantha and she had no idea it was coming. Once she opened up her brand new Mac Book she started to cry. Which made Steph cry, which made me cry. Momma Mousetis was already crying.. before Sam even opened the box. :) Anyway... what is the first thing you do when you get a new Mac? YEP! Use Photobooth. :)

After brunch we headed to my parent's house to exchange gifts. They got us a new microwave!!! It's awesome and looks like it's from the future. Here's a photo of my parent's tree...

The day after Christmas was pretty relaxed. Lola loves to watch TV. Here she is watching T.J. play Modern Warfare II.

A self portrait of T.J... in our dining room. (Below)

I decided to call my Mom and get the fabulous banana bread recipe that she has, which is originally from her Mom.

My new mixer! Thanks T.J.! It made baking so much easier! (Below)

Another thing we've got going on this Christmas Season is our walk in love. kiosk at the mall. I hope you had time to check it out! Today (New Years Eve) is our last day. Heres a shot T.J. took at the kiosk of our newest shirt! (Below)

Here's a shot T.J. grabbed at his extended family Christmas party. Kaila was enjoying being in the room with all the presents. (Below)

I am always telling T.J. to back up, cause he takes every photo of me only inches from my face. Example A. (Below) Ha ha.

On Tuesday afternoon went for a short walk to Turkey Hill to get soda and coffee. T.J. got the two shots below on our walk. I was WAY to cold for me to even think about holding a camera.

A couple months ago, someone in the wedding business told me "Get ready.. we're heading into engagement season!" I nodded and laughed knowing they were right. My last three photo sessions have been engagements, and I have several scheduled for the beginning of the new year. :)

I know Ashley, the bride-to-be, from high school, and she met her fiance, Clint, at college. This lovely couple is truly as sweet as they look in their photographs. They were a breeze to photograph and I'm very much looking forward to their wedding this coming summer!!

Enjoy! [BC]

Cody & Amber - Engagements!

Brooke

It continues to amaze me how some photo-sessions call for black & white images, and some call for color. Needless to say, Cody & Amber's engagement session was one of those that required color, color, color!

In the last couple weeks, I've have been blessed to be able to photograph two out of three of my best friends from high school. I met Amber in 5th grade, when she moved to the same elementary school as me. I'm sure if I dug through my Mom's old photographs, I'd find a handful of Amber and I hanging out as kids. :) We remained friends through middle school, and even walked together at our high school graduation.

I truly love my job, and I really love when I get photograph the people that mean the most to me.

Amber & Cody met their first year at Messiah College - and the rest is history. I remember going out for ice cream, coffee, breakfast, etc.. with Amber, and always hearing about Cody and how wonderful he is. And he's nothing short of that. They are perfect for each other and I can't wait to see them get married in June. I'm pretty sure I'll cry at their wedding, no matter what. :)

They chose to have their engagements shot in Harrisburg, since they have many memories of being downtown together from their four years (right?) of dating. It was FREEZING outside - but we survived and got some fantastic images out of our session.

And, to Cody & Amber - I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do. You guys are precious. [BC]

Patrick & Sarah - Wedding!

Brooke

On October 31st, 2009, T.J. and I had the privilege of photographing Patrick and Sarah's wedding celebration... and we had a fabulous time. We shot their engagements awhile ago and have been looking forward to their wedding day ever since!

Photos started around lunch time at the hotel where everyone was staying for the weekend. Then T.J. headed to the church with the bridesmaids to meet up with the guys, while I stayed in the room with Sarah and her Dad, until we were given the "okay" to get on the bus and head to the church.

The church was beautiful - and I don't think Patrick stopped smiling during the ceremony. :)

After the ceremony everyone headed to the reception location, where we shot a few photos - and did our best to avoid the rain. The reception itself was a blast - swing dancing, cake eating contests, hilarious toasts and possibly the most outrageous best man speech I've ever heard. (Parts of it were pre-recorded, to play as his "thoughts" when he wasn't speaking... Ha!)

Since the weather was so rainy and dark the day of the wedding, T.J. and I offered to spend the night in the hotel and shoot more photos the next morning, in better light and better weather. Patrick and Sarah loved the idea - and I'm so glad we did the extra shoot the following day.

Enjoy these photos everyone! You can just see Patrick and Sarah brimming over with their love for each other. It's awesome.

And to Pat & Sarah - Thanks for being such a great couple to photograph. We enjoyed every minute of your wedding, and shooting again the next day in sub-zero temperatures. :) Thank you for allowing us to be such a big part of your special day. Hope to see you again soon - and we're totally coming to stay with you in NY, asap!

Jon & Kim - Engagements!

Brooke

I got a voicemail from Kim a few weeks ago, and before I even got the chance to listen to it, I knew it was going to say 1.) "Jon and I are ENGAGED!!!" and 2.) "When are you available for engagement photos?"

And I was right. :)

I met Kim my freshman year of high school, in English class. I was new to the school and didn't really know anybody. Since Kim's last name is Deitrich (for now!) and mine was Courtney, she was seated directly behind me, and I'll never forget the first thing I said to her, "Hey, want a kiss?" Fear not! I was holding out a handful of Hershey's Kisses - and just like that, we were instantly friends.

A lot of my favorite high school memories are with Kim, and her friendship is invaluable.

I am SO happy for Kim and Jon and had a lot of fun shooting their engagements. I can't wait to photograph their wedding in May! Enjoy the photographs! Love you both. [BC]

Justin and Wendy's ceremony was in the chapel of the church they attend, which is where they met. Justin's daughter Tsaley was one of the flower girls, and an adorable one at that.

To all you future brides out there, "Yes! We travel!"... and love to do it. Be it Colorado or Hawaii (that'd be nice, btw), we'd love to shoot your wedding.

Enjoy these images. They are radiating with love. I don't have much to say, except that it was truly a blessing to photograph this wedding. [BC & Team]
